Your fitness and nutrition data stays on your device. JSON.fit has no accounts and never uploads your workouts, meal plans or health information. To understand how the app and website are used and to make them better, we collect anonymous, non-identifying usage analytics. We don't show ads and we never sell your data.
This policy explains, in plain English, exactly what that means for the JSON.fit iOS and Android apps and for the JSON.fit website (json.fit).
JSON.fit is built and operated by Ryan Novinc (a sole trader based in Australia). In this policy, "JSON.fit", "we", "us" and "our" refer to that operation. "App" means the JSON.fit mobile app on the App Store and Google Play. "Website" means json.fit and its pages.
If you have any privacy question, you can reach us any time at support@json.fit.
The app is designed to keep your personal fitness and nutrition information local to your device. We do not receive it, store it on our servers, or send it anywhere. Because this data is processed only on your device, it is not "collected" by us. This includes:
Fitness & workout data
Nutrition & health data
App preferences
This information may be included in your device's own backups (for example iCloud or Google backups). Those backups are managed entirely by Apple or Google under their privacy policies โ we have no access to them.
a. Anonymous usage & diagnostics analytics
To understand how JSON.fit is actually used โ which features help, where people get stuck, whether something is broken โ the app and website collect anonymous, non-identifying analytics. This is the only meaningful data we collect about how you use JSON.fit. It typically includes:
This analytics data is not linked to your identity. We do not attach your name, email, or your on-device workout/nutrition data to it, and we do not use it to build an advertising profile of you or to track you across other companies' apps or websites.
We use the following analytics providers, who process this data on our behalf:
b. Email address (website newsletter / free cookbook)
If you choose to enter your email address on the website to receive the free cookbook and updates, we collect that email so we can send it to you. This is the only situation in which we collect a personal identifier, and it is entirely optional โ you never have to provide it to use the app. Email subscriptions are handled through our email infrastructure on Amazon Web Services (AWS). You can unsubscribe at any time using the link in any email we send, or by emailing support@json.fit.
c. Purchases
JSON.fit is free. There are no subscriptions and no in-app purchases, so we do not process or store any payment information.
To make analytics work, the website uses cookies and similar technologies, and the app's analytics tools use device-level identifiers. These are used only for the anonymous analytics described above, never for advertising.
You can limit or switch off this analytics at any time:
If you are in the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom or Switzerland, non-essential analytics and cookies are only intended to run where this is permitted under local law. If you would prefer not to be measured at all, you can use the opt-out options above or simply not use the website.
We only share data with the service providers we use to run JSON.fit, and only so they can perform their service for us:
We may also disclose information where we are legally required to do so (for example in response to a valid legal request), or to protect the rights, safety or property of JSON.fit, our users or the public. We do not otherwise share your data.
Our analytics and email providers (Google, Microsoft and AWS) may process data in the United States and other countries. Where data is transferred internationally, these providers maintain their own legal safeguards for that transfer (for example, certification under the EUโUS Data Privacy Framework). Your on-device workout, nutrition and health data does not leave your device, so it is not transferred internationally by us.
Anonymous analytics data is retained only for limited periods, in line with each provider's settings (for example, Microsoft Clarity retains data for up to 13 months, and Google Analytics retention is time-limited). If you subscribe to the cookbook/newsletter, we keep your email until you unsubscribe. Data stored on your device remains there until you delete it or uninstall the app.
You can ask us to access, correct or delete personal information we hold about you, and to object to or restrict how we use it. In practice the only personal information we hold is your email address (if you subscribed) โ your fitness and nutrition data is on your device, under your control, and you can delete it directly in the app at any time.
To make a request, email support@json.fit. Depending on where you live (for example the EEA, the UK, or California), you may have additional rights under laws such as the GDPR, UK GDPR or CCPA/CPRA; we will honour those rights where they apply. We won't charge you for making a request or treat you differently for exercising your rights.
JSON.fit is intended for users aged 13 and over. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13, and our analytics is not directed at children. If you believe a child has provided us with personal information (for example, by subscribing with an email address), contact support@json.fit and we will delete it.
Data on your device is protected by your device's own security (such as your passcode and biometric lock), so keeping your device updated and secured protects that data. Analytics data we collect is transmitted over encrypted (HTTPS/TLS) connections.
Important: JSON.fit is not a substitute for professional medical advice. Always consult a healthcare professional for medical, nutrition or dietary decisions, especially if you have a health condition.
We may update this policy from time to time. When we do, we'll change the "Last Updated" date above, and significant changes will be communicated through the app or website.
